Something Wicked This Way Comes

The German Times Article One 4-65

The Durmstrang Institute of Magical Learning has long been known for its odd appointments of staff in the past but this year, Highmaster Dr. Florence Nettle has taken even this to extremes by taking on board none other than Raven “The Sweeney” Drake as Potion Mistress at the prestigious school. No reasons have been cited by the man himself for the appointment though curious reporters and board members were assured that the “Doctor does everything for a reason” by a member of staff who chooses to remain anonymous.

But what could be the reasoning behind unleashing a known psychopath on innocent children, the nation is asking as concerned parents continue to bombard the Durmstrang board of governors with owls on a daily basis. To find out, Zarna LeGuinn, field reporter took a trip to the school to meet the “wicked witch of Durmstrang” who, in her own words, prefers to be addressed as “The Sweeney”.

Drake (19) met with our reporter in her office well decorated with body parts she claims to have taken from students and enemies alike, not inspiring any faith in her teaching skills whatsoever. She continues to confide that she took the job because it offers her plenty of “test subjects.” Drake also makes no secret of the bloodlust that consumes her upon sight of people in general. In fact, an inside source reveals that the Potion Mistress can often be found cutting students and has gotten in trouble more than once for injuring them beyond recovery. Drake has yet to show any remorse for her behaviour and why the Highmaster tolerates it remains a mystery.

Drake was brought up in an asylum in Germany under rather questionable guardians and with an even more questionable education. Much of her past is shrouded in mystery and only her part in the current cold war has brought to light her existence. While no doubt skilled as an assassin, as someone who should be having a hand in educating our young children, she leaves a lot to be desired. The question, as always remains one of ethics. While someone like Drake may prove advantageous in battle, should she be exposed to the young minds of today so that more “Sweenies” of tomorrow will sprout under her tutelage? Has the threat of war so morally bankrupted our officials that we would buy our victory at the price of an army of “Drakes” ruling our land?
