Character Background:

Alys was born mid flight, in the sense that her parents were running away from wherever they used to stay when her mama was pregnant and Alys came unexpectedly, two months ahead of schedule. She had to be delivered in an inn by the innkeeper’s wife who assured Mrs. Diederich she was a qualified midwife. In appreciation for her kindness in letting them shelter at the inn and helping to birth their daughter, Alys’ parents named her after the woman.

For as long as Alys can remember, she’s lived in this Muggle village/small town. Her parents are activists of some sort and have driven into her how war is the “root of all evil and by taking sides, we only encourage that evil to spread”. They preach mercy and unity and concepts that the girl has a hard time understanding and make her wish her parents were as interested in her as they are in the war. For example, when she was first discovering magic she asked her parents how to hex a group of Muggle boys who kept teasing her at school and her parents gave her a half hour lecture on how it was wrong to use magic against Muggles because they didn’t have any. Her parents didn’t even stop to give her a chance to explain that she wanted to hex them because they were mean to her, not because they were Muggles.

After that, Alys stopped trying to be heard.
