Character Background:

Marie was born in New Zealand while her parents were on holiday. Her mother was a beautiful French woman and her father a humorous Australian. Being the adventurous people they were, they packed up their things after the holiday and decided to move to England. Marie's first and middle names were chosen by her mother, but she inherited her father's surname. In England, Marie's mother unfortunately died during a bank hold-up by being shot. Shortly after, her father, unable to bear the grief, lost his grip on reality and never responded to any stimulus. He was and is alive, oh yes, but hardly human.

He was taken to a mental hospital while Marie was raised in an orphanage. The loss of her parents toughened her up, gaining her a quick and witty tongue and a barricade around her emotions. The orphanage was relatively comfortable, but Marie couldn't wait to get out of there when she got her letter from Hogwarts.
