Lucas entered the Exam Hall, and after taking a seat, started the exam when they were told to. He looked down at his paper and read the first question a few times, before he picked up his quill, dipped it in ink, and started to write.

Q1) Enunciate three differences between Legilimency and Occlumency.
'1) Legilimency is the act of magically going through the layers of a person's mind and correctly interpreting one's findings, while Occlumency is the act of magically shielding one's mind against Legilimency.'

He scratched his chin and wondered what other differences Legilimency and Occlumency had.

'2) When performing Legilimency, there is an incantation - "Legilimens," - while in Occlumency, there are no incantations needed.'

As Lucas couldn't figure out another difference, he sighed and went on to the second question. He decided he would come up with a third answer later.

occulto is Latin and means to hide, conceal, cover (the English word 'occlude' comes from this root, as well as the modern astronomy terms about one celestial body hiding another from view)

mens in Latin means mind

Q3) When a Legilimens invades your mind, which memory is he accessing- long term, short term, or sensorial? Explain.

Really a trained Legilimens can retrieve any memory they wish to find. Short term always comes up first and is the easiest to access but you can find anything.

Q4) Does physical proximity matter when someone tries to invade your mind? Why? Yes and no to be honest. The best things can be found when you are standing right in front of a person. But from what we have learned from our history the Dark Lord was able to get into Harry's mind at a distance. So I imagine if you are well trained at it distance won't matter.

Q6) How does Occlumency come in handy while magically dueling against a Legilimens? Being a good Occlumens will help you prevent people from seeing anything in your mind that you don't want them to see. They will also be able to make false memories to be seen.

Q7) Would a Legilimens find anything in the mind of an amnesiac? Why/why not? Of course they would. Just because an amnesiac can't remember does not mean the memories are not there to be found. I imagine that a good Legilimens would be able to possibly help them to remember.

1) One difference is that Legilimency requires the incantation Legilimency to be cast where as Occlumency requires no incantation.

2) A second difference is that Legilimency is used to look at thoughts or memories and invade another's mind where as Occlumency is the opposite, defending your mind.

3) A third difference is that a very skilled Legilimens can plant false images in an Occlumens mind, where as Occlumens can only make false images and hope that whoever is trying to read their thoughts takes the bait.

Occlumency comes from a combination of the Latin words occludere and mens. Occludere means to shut or close, and gives us the english word occlude. Occlude means to close up or block off. Mens means mind. So it means shut or close off your mind.

Q3) When a Legilimens invades your mind, which memory is he accessing- long term, short term, or sensorial? Explain.

A skilled Legilimens can access all of those memories and thought processes. But the easiest and first to come up is always the short term memory.

Q4) Does physical proximity matter when someone tries to invade your mind? Why?

Physical proximity does make a large difference actually. It is easiest to perform when you are meeting the person's eyes of the mind you are trying to invade. Though it still can be done without meeting eyes. One example being Voldemort and Harry Potter. Voldemort was able to affect Harry's mind even from hundreds of miles away, but the special bond between them must be taken to account when mentioning that.

Q6) How does Occlumency come in handy while magically dueling against a Legilimens?

An accomplished Occlumens can most likely completely close off his mind from an attacking Legilimens. So it would come in handy because you can hide your thoughts and mind when you are fighting against him. Also you could trick him by thinking of false images and that could confuse the Legilimens.

Naomi walked into the exam Hall and sat at one of the desks, getting ready to do the exam. Truthfully, she was pretty sure that she'd do good on this exam as she knew most of the answers to them.

The word Occulto, which is the first part in Occlumency, is from the Latin language and it means to hide, conceal or cover something. The English word, Occlude, come from the root of Cover. The mens part is also from Latin and means mind.

Question 3. When a Legilimens invades your mind, which memory is he accessing- long term, short term, or sensorial? Explain.

In truth, a really trained Legilimens can retrieve any and all memories that they wish to find, be it long term, short term or sensorial. The short term memory comes up first and is always the easiest to find but most of the time if a Legilimens wants something specif they will search all the memories and retrieve the one one they want.

Question 4. Does physical proximity matter when someone tries to invade your mind? Why?

To be truthful, it does matter but, from what we I learned in our History lesson the Dark Lord was able to enter Harry's mind from a distance so I think it just depends on how strong and trained the Legilimens is. If you are thoroughly trained I think that you will be able to enter the mind of someone from a big distance.

Question 6. How does Occlumency come in handy while magically dueling against a Legilimens?

When Magically Dueling being a good Occlumens will help you prevent a Legilimens being able to invade your mind when you have your guard down and they also won't be able to plant false memories into your mind that easily.

Question 7. Would a Legilimens find anything in the mind of an amnesiac? Why/why not?

Any Legilimens would be able to find a memory in the mind of an amnesiac person because even if the amnesiac person doesn't remember particular memories this does not mean that the memories are not there. It is also possible for the Legilimens to be able to help the amnesiac person remember particular memories.

Naomi sighed as she placed her quill down, looking over her parchment once again. She was sure she got the answers right and she knew that she would at least get an A in it.
