Loss. (Closed)

Briony stood in the nursery of Raven.

It pained her to see what was left of her child, and what made it worse, is that she wasn't supposed to touch any of her things, she couldn't lift a tshirt to have that last remaining linger of her child's smell, she couldn't stroke her favourite snake teddybear, a gift she had given her for her latest birthday. Nor could she save any of the pictures her child had drawn for her, Briony couldn't run a fingertip along the ghost-like lines that her child had drawn at an earlier time.

Gritting her teeth, she found it hard to see how it was anyone elses fault but their own. How could they have not known? How could she have not tried harder to save her babies life, the baby she had mistreated so while she herself had needed help, and refused it. She had missed those precious years with her child, that she could never, and would never get back.

Unable to stop herself she fell to her knees on the floor of the nursery and harboured the shattered memories of her child, her Raven in her mind, not wanting to believe she was truly gone, what was left for her now? A marriage that was suffering as it was, Headmistress of a school she had dreamt her dead daughter would attend? All things seemed meaningless now, a future planned around Raven had vanished, and Briony thought herself had vanished along with it.

Reaching a hand to her cheek she noted the tears that fell, but couldn't bring herself to stop them. Nobody was here to see her, so why couldn't she cry? One lingering thought played through her mind, haunting her and driving her deeper into a dispair she couldn't see herself emerging from.
