Tess always wondered how was it that people thought she was so easy to read. People believed that she was always nice, always calm, always a pushover. She snorted at the fact and looked down at the shallow basin and put her wand to her head and closed her eyes.

A small wisp appeared out of her head and instantly she put it in the container. She looked down at the Pensieve once more and decided to drop it in the pool of memories.

'Why was she so different?' She asked herself that all the time.

A six year old Tess was seen with tears dripping down her face. As she opened the door, her mother Amorette, saw her with sympathetic eyes and opened her arms. Tess immediately ran into them and clung to her mother. She was easily picked up by Amorette and she walked her towards the sitting room.

Once again was Tess ostracized for something she couldn't explain. Amorette caressed the top of her head and sighed cooing the song that always comforted her daughter.

"Blackbird singing in the dead of night, take these broken wings and learn to fly, all your life you were only waiting for this moment to arise" she cooed into her daughter's ear.

Tess sniffled and wiped her nose against her sleeve like any child would.

"Come on you know the song" Amorette whispered.

She sniffled and nodded towards her.

"Blackbird singing in the dead of night, take these sunken eyes and learn to see. All your life, you were only waiting for this moment to be free"

She smiled as her mother caressed Tess' cheeks and wiped the extra tears, stopping her daughter from having red eyes.

"Blackbird fly" Tess squeaked.

Amorette laughed and caressed Tess' back ignoring her child's embarrassment.

"Go on" she whispered nuzzling her daughter.

"Blackbird fly" Tess whispered. "Into the night of the dark black night."

"Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly...into the night of the dark black night" Amorette sang along.

Nudging her one more time, Tess knew it was her turn and curled up into her mother's side.

"Blackbird singing in the dead of night, take these broken wings and learn to fly, all your life...you were only waiting for this moment to arise"

Tess was no longer crying and simply clung to her mother. A few sniffles were heard, but she was no longer crying.

"What happened mi amor" Amorette whispered.

"I exploded something" Tess whispered.

"Again?"

Tess wiggled uncomfortably but nodded. It wasn't her first time; this was her fifth time. She didn't know that magic was the reason, living around Squibs, magic wasn't mentioned around them. Amorette and James, her husband, had avoided doing magic in public. There were wizards around them, but for Tess it was the norm. James simply told her it was a secret, and avoided any Muggle interactions around Tess, but Amorette was different. There were no wizard children around them, and Tess needed to interact with people around her, so she pushed her child to socialize.

Every incident that occurred, Tess was a klutz, around these children, but since the age of five they had been calling her a freak. Amorette was beginning to loathe Muggles and their views on her daughter, if only they knew that Tess was more special than they were for she was born with magic in her blood.

"I'm a freak" Tess murmured against her mother's chest.

"No. Tu eres especial" Amorette said.

She smiled and looked at her mother. She knew that sometimes when her mother was angry or having any deep emotion she would go into Spanish completely. Amorette might have been raised in England but her Spanish blood was never washed away.

"Te amo" she added.

"I love you too Mama" she said.

Amorette knew that it would be only a few years before her daughter would be in Beauxbatons and would be accepted by them all. She pulled her daughter closer to her chest and began to hum once more a tune that Tess loved more than anything.

"Hey Jude, don't make it bad, take a sad song and make it better. Remember to let us into your heart, then you can start to make it better."

Amorette heard her daughter yawn and smiled continuing to sing.

"Hey Jude don't be afraid you were made to go out and get her. The minute you let her into your skin, then you begin to make it better."

She pulled back from the basin and closed her eyes. Merlin she remembered those times of being ostracized, hated and she wiped some tears that appeared from her eyes. She always tried so hard to fit in, so hard to try and make friends.

Now she was older, but still she was that insecure. When she saw cliques she typically backed down not wanting to even try. Maybe she needed to change, perhaps, but she would always think of being called a freak. Even now, now knowing why she was so different before, it didn't numb the ache.

She walked away thinking that perhaps she needed to open up a little more. She thought of her mother and knew that she needed to keep opening up. If only a little.
