Potions Sixth Year Exam

Evangeline had never taken an exam in her life and as such did not really know the format to them, the examiner who was sitting with her seemed to be wanting to bang his head on the wall and run away in the same breath, sighing, Evangeline resigned herself for a day of doing nothing much while the students completed their exams, it was rather tough she had to admit and she would have at least allowed them some form of notes into the room but, no, apparently that was not allowed.

Humans and their rules.

The examiner called the students in one at a time from the hall outside where they had been waiting, as soon as they had settled into the seperate private room he would smile and then tell them what potion they would be brewing, when the next student entered, Evangeline decided to give it a try.

"Are you ready to begin your examination?" she asked, tilting her head to one side as she waited for an answer.

Charlotte wandered into the private room for the exam and bit her lip, she really did want to do well in this exam, she had wanted to go in for a career in potions when she had first come to Hogwarts but now even though that had changed she still had a passion for it, she still wanted to do well to please her Papa.

Sucking on her lip piercings she couldn't help but feel those butterflies in the pit of her stomach, but she drew comfort from having the presence of her professor Evangeline here in the room. Sitting down she waited for the examiner to start to tell her what she was going to have to brew.

"Yes, I am ready." she whispered nervously.

Tabi walked into the exam room. She knew being the daughter of a potions master she better do well or she would earn the wrath of her farther and she really didn't need that. She had hoped to see Alistair before she started because just being around him gives her a relaxing feeling, but he had been busy.

She went and had a seat at her table and waited for the examiner to give her the potion that she would be working on.

Evangeline nodded to the examiner when Charlotte told them that she was indeed ready to begin taking the exam, she believed that she was indeed ready, she seemed nervous but then again all of the students who entered the hall were nervous. The next student to begin their exam after her was Tabi Ann, no doubt she would be outside the hall worrying about what potion she would be preparing too.

She just hoped that this would not effect the quality of the potions that she made while under exam conditions, in some cases, peoples nerves did change the way that they acted under certain conditions, a weakness of being human in Evangelines opinion.

"Will you please brew the Amortentia potion for us Charlotte?" the examiner asked "Please begin when you are ready."

Charlotte almost groaned when she heard what potion she was brewing, surely they wouldn't mean that they had to brew the whole thing, it was so complicated! Regardless...there would be very little else she could do now she had been assigned that potion.

Gathering the ingredients needed; 12 Ashwinder eggs, frozen; 2 oz. of belladonna essence; 5 Veela hairs; 1 rose (petals only); 1 cup of white wine, mixed with 1 cup of water, Charlotte went over to the cauldron, lighting the fire underneath she smiled nervously at the examiner before putting them out of her mind as best she could and beginning.

Adding the cup of white wine, mixed with one cup of water Charlotte made sure to stir the potion counter clockwise, like she had memoried from the recipies. Taking a deep breath she bit her lip and slowly added the Ashwinder eggs. Bringing to a slight boil, she made sure that she stirred frequently until the potion turned thick. Watching it turn sparkly blue in color. Charlotte stirred after it turns blue for five minutes making her arm numb in the process.

Adding the Veela hairs Charlotte then took the potion off fire, and covered the cauldron. She remembered the next step of the potion was to wait for half an hour and wondered what she should do, maybe she should tell the examiner that was what she was doing? So...eventually she decided that would be right.

"I have to wait thirty minutes for the potion to brew now." she stated, knowing each exam took at least an hour, she knew she had lots of time left.

After the thirty minutes, she put cauldron back on. Uncovering the potion she almost jumped for joy when she saw it was a yellow colour. That was what it was supposed to be. Then Charlotte made sure to add one ounce of belladonna essence, and half of the rose petals. She stirred and let boil on low heat.

Pausing she then added the other ounce of belladonna essence, and the other half of the rose petals. Stirring the potion she sighed lightly, wiping her brow. Taking off fire Charlotte watched the steam rise from the pot in heart-shaped swirls, the potion a mother of pearl colour. Bottling the potion she smiled shakily, handing it to the examiner;

"Here is the potion." she stated, when she was dismissed she hurriedly left and nodded to Tabi, who was waiting to take her exam as she did so.

Humphrey walked into the potions classroom, ready to start the exam. He had a feeling that they would all be brewing different potions when she started separating them one by one into to brew. Usually he did well in potions and he hoped he would again. The main thing was following the directions precisely.

"I'm ready to begin Professor Webb." he told her. They were all sitting and waiting to begin. Charlotte and Tabi were already there.

Evangeline nodded her head when Charlotte had finished brewing her potion, it had gone well and she was going to be able to award her great marks for the work that she had done. Although she wasn't allowed to give her any clues, Evangeline was happy for the girl as she walked out of the examination room.

Calling for the next student, Miss Prewett, she waited for her to come in, hopefully she would do just as well in the work that she set for her, she was sure that she would be able to brew the potion with complete ease, it was a simple one that was for sure. When she had entered Evangeline nodded to her.

"Are you ready to begin your exam?" she asked, before the examiner interrupted and stated "The potion you will be brewing for us today is the black fire potion."

Naomi walked into the Potions Exam classroom, smiling nervously. Despite Potions being one of her stronger points, she was still nervous about doing the exam. Her nerves usually got the better of her but this time, she wouldn't let them.

Taking deep breaths, Naomi relaxed and said. "I'm ready to begin."
